As a matter of principle, I usually avoid replying to people's creativity, for like many a writer, I tend to spend some of my time expressing ideas and opinions that hopefully would provoke debate and consequently lead to reform and improvement within our body-politic. But when I read through the Friday January 9 edition of The Chronicle (Vol. 18, No. 68), I could not help but set the records straight with a fitting response.
First of all, whoever chooses to go on a praise-singing spree is at liberty to do so but not in the pages of the esteemed Chronicle. Nonetheless, when blatant untruths and lap-dog tantrums are presented as hard evidence to buttress and prop up non-existent egos, those of us who know the truth must necessarily stand up and be counted. Dr. Kwame Donkoh Fordwor has NEVER, repeat NEVER been part of the Akufo-Addo campaign. In no way whatsoever has he been associated with the 2008 bid of the NPP; perhaps, his only 'crime' is to have been a member of the NPP.
If the writer of the said article has a beef with him, “she” should not use old hatreds to malign an innocent old man, who by the way, paid 20 million cedis for all NPP Parliamentary Candidates in 1992! When the party boycotted the elections, God knows who even called him to thank him for his very brave gesture.
Today, some people have benefited from the Kufuor administration and instead of going away quietly to enjoy their booty, they have the effrontery to rub salt in our wounds. But is Kufuor himself blameless in this whole saga of the suicide process?
The Kufuor-Nipa Syndrome Contrary to what the so-called “Maame Coomson” ascribed as a 'kufuor-nipa' being attacked by 'non-kufuor-nipa' people, it is unfortunately the case that ex-president Kufuor actually created the “Onka yen ho” syndrome. How else can one explain that after those people had done him that favour by securing the victory somewhere in Accra not far from his residence during the second round of voting in 2000, it was only the Ashantis members of his family in that team that got appointments? The rest were sent into political Siberia for 8 years (names withheld for now). Who complained at the time? If that was not a Kufuor nipa move, I wonder what is. Party people are not fools and do not need anyone to tell them who is playing one group against another.
If Kufuor got boos from the party at its congresses, he must search within himself to find out why; he shall see that it was largely because he ignored the hardworking foot soldiers thereby resulting in defeats at Odododiodoo and Asawase. I can assure the writer that even now, if ex-president Kufuor appears at any congress, he shall get higher decibels of boos than he has ever heard.
MASLOC This was a programme crafted and designed by a hardworking son of this country who out of sheer hatred was sent to oblivion by ex-president Kufuor. What happened after MASLOC was organized? They brought a veterinary doctor to come run it. The least said about his tenure, the better.
And then they brought Akwasi Prempeh, Alan Kyerematen's acolyte and Special Assistant at the Ministry of Trade and Industry to run MASLOC, only for him to dole out all the available cash to the Alan Kyerematen Calamari Operation. While ordinary people were applying for soft loans to expand their businesses, somebody was using the largesse of MASLOC to fuel his campaign and “purchase of constituency chairmen”.
Why won't party people boo at Kufuor for overseeing this blatant omission of equity in the administration of the Mascloc? And then there is the infamous RUMSEC: we are waiting for the NDC to start its jailing spree to show them who to go after and what to look at!
Put together, both MASLOC and RUMSEC dealt party faithful such a blow that some of us are inclined to believe it contributed massively to the loss we suffered in the December 7 elections. Here is one clear example: to enable Alan Kyerematen win the NPP primaries, they sent MASLOC funds of ¢28 billion (I use the old cedi denomination throughout) to the Volta Region, excluding the VW Parati cars that all the chairmen are driving around as taxis (some like the Anlo Chairman have 2), ¢15 billion to Ashanti, ¢15 billion to Western. Now one may ask the economic underpinnings and wisdom of JAK in the apportioning of these STATE funds.
Well after the primaries, and following persistent complaints for funds by the other regions, the paltry amounts of ¢8 billion (Eastern Region), ¢6 billion (Central and Brong Ahafo Regions) were sent. If anybody thought this was bound to change anything, it only succeeded in infuriating people the more. Why would party people not boo at Kufuor?
Is it any wonder that our people in those areas not only refused to campaign for the party but actually refused to come out to vote?
Maybe it is time for the Serious Fraud Offices to investigate how Akwasi Prempeh single handedly signed away ¢15 billion of Ghana's money to RUMSEC; those are the 'Kufuor-nipa'; when they finish that, they can also take a look at the ¢11.4 billion poured into the failed PSIs and cap it all with the VW Parati cars that they gave away like burst water pipes.
And again we pose the question? Why won't the boos get louder if our whole presidency cannot keep the (edited out -----) when Kufuor was emulating Anane in the chasing of forgotten and jilted white women, it was it the so-called Akyem Virus that was urging him on? JAK in his wisdom didn't see anything wrong with that? Why won't party people boo him and anybody associated with him when after going out of their way to defend him, all they get is a slap in the face with such costly prankish antics? The writer must really think us dumb!
Maybe the writer should ask Kufuor why he never visited the Upper West Region since he was elected President till he left office at midnight of January 6, 2008. If the writer thinks “she” has some praises to sing, “she” should direct them far away from those of us who really know too much. We are in no mood for bootlicking antics, the time for that ended with Kufuor's tenure.
We are not deceived by this garbled prose presented by an errant sidekick who thinks rubbing salt in the wound of the party would make people kowtow to the former President. While at it, the writer can be sure that we watched while both Alan and Ntim were putting in their structure and networks when we were all campaigning. We shall deal them an even more devastating blow than they had in the first instance.
The NPP, party of The Greats, is not about to be handed over to professional bootlickers and “yes sir” apparatchiks; we shall guard our tradition with all the force we can muster and nothing can stop us. If the writer thinks simply because Ntim comes from Brong Ahafo, the region would throw its weight behind us, why didn't the whole Ashanti Region vote NPP because a certain Robert Yaw Amankwa (President's Boy) was elected regional chairman? Such vile verbiage can only come from a Kufuor-nipa, the chief “priestess” of which we all see in the faceless “Maame Coomson” of hermaphrodite nomenclature.!
In any case, did Kufuor not run a one-man show in 2004? Did he consult the campaign team throughout his campaign? Was D.K. Osei, a non-party man, not running the show and drawing up Kufuor's itinerary? Who complained about that? Perhaps when the pictures of D.K. Osei and Mrs. Rawlings taken at the airport in Freetown are published, NPP people shall come to understand who really sold us out when men needed to stand up and be counted!
The NPP used to meet at a certain hotel on the Ring Road. In 1992, agents of the ruling government of the day bombed it. What did we see? Nothing. Instead, we get a madness of an investment called Hotel Kufuor, which all party people, including my frail old self had to defend to the hilt. An ignoramus called Charles Sam, actually had the effrontery to tell us that “Kufuor as an Ashanti father advised his son to buy it”.
Maybe the owners of that hotel on the Ring Road do not have such fathers to advice them not to put their family property at the service of the political principles they believe in when things are tough; “Maame Coomson” would have us believe that party people would not boo at such ingratitude personified in her benefactor! She and her likes must really think us stupid to sing praises to those who have used us and made us look like idiots.
Let me sound a final note of warning: we have been hearing of a so-called Akyem Mafia over and over again. Nobody has been bold or brave enough to name who constitutes the Akyem Mafia.
We know the Jamasi and/or the Sekyere Mafia, and God knows if some idiotic sidekicks want to start a fight. We can start the fight by telling Ghanaians the real reason why Francis Poku was treated the way he was and why he had to leave Ghana under the circumstances he did! Some of us never took up appointments in Kufuor's administration, nor supped with him, nor graced his functions nor partook in his misdemeanours, but bore our cross with grace and candour. Come again “Madam faceless Maame Coomson” and let the battle be joined. And as a piece of free advice, “Maame Coomson” should NEVER send any article for publication and tell us somewhere along the line that “…my wife says enough as the poor fellow is suicidal at this time”, in reference to Dr. Apraku.
We now know that "Maame Coomson", has a wife! And these are the ones praising Kufuor to high heavens. With praise-singers like these, why won't Kufuor get booed anytime he appears at a congress? Come again, thou cowardly coward!
