The Reformed Patriotic Party (RPD), has congratulated Prof. John Evans Atta Mills and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for emerging the President and the ruling party respectively after a keen contest in the 2008 election.
“We thank God for preserving the lives of Prof. J.E.A. Mills and all the members of the NDC through a hectic period from December 7 to 28, 2008 to January 3, 2009. We sincerely thank all Ghanaians for coming out in their numbers to vote in support of the prince of peace, Prof. J.E.A. Mills and the NDC,” it stated.
In a press release, it commended the Electoral Commission for the tact with which it conducted a free, fair and transparent election and the declaration of the winner in a peaceful manner.
It said the prevalence of peace must also be credited to the entire Ghanaian citizenry for conducting themselves in a mature manner.
The statement also pointed out that the role of the media must not be overemphasised, as in the discharge of their duty, they helped Ghanaians to be vigilant and well-informed.
“The security personnel who displayed a high sense of responsibility are commended for giving us an assurance of hope that in times of difficulty they, at the peril of their lives, could protect us against all situations,” it stated.
The statement said “We of the RPD hope that the Atta Mills government will fulfil all the achievable promises made to Ghanaians to ensure seeking their welfare for a better life through, human capital investment, creation of jobs, investment in the economy and the maintenance of law and order. We believe that these, when upheld, would justify the confidence reposed in Prof. J.E.A. Mills and the NDC.”
