'Accept run-off results'

Three presidential candidates in the December 7 polls have appealed to the losing candidate in the presidential run-off and his political party to accept the result of the December 28 election in good faith and endeavour to work with the leadership and supporters of the parties to abide by the will of the people.

A statement jointly signed and issued by Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Thomas Nuako Ward-Brew of the Democratic People's Party (DPP) and Kwesi Amoafo-Yeboah, the Independent Presidential candidate, yesterday has therefore called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to declare the confirmed results agreed upon by the representatives of the political parties.

“We appeal to the winning candidate and his political party as and when declared by the Electoral Commission to take the confidence given to them by the electorate with great care, be magnitude in victory and ensure that peace and stability prevail in the country,” the statement urged.

“We repeat our recommendation to the eventual winner and the next President of the Republic of Ghana to consider bringing greater inclusiveness to our society and do everything possible to unite our people and give opportunity to all Ghanaians to serve the people,” the three presidential candidates added.

The candidates noted that they were aware that Ghanaians lived in very challenging times when the expectations of the people for democracy were high.

“We dare not fail them. It is imperative to put Ghana first above our individual interests. Let there be transparency and encouragement of trust in one another,” they emphasised.

The three presidential candidates finally commended the EC, the political parties and the people of Ghana for the work done so far and the extent of participation in the 2008 elections.
