NEW: Ghana Tourist Villas offers an unforgettable holiday and business experience in Accra.
The Institute of Adult Education of the University of Ghana is to be renamed Institute of Continuing and Distance Education, says Professor Yaw Oheneba-Sakyi, Director of the Institute.
The new name he said is to satisfy the increasing societal demands on the institute towards the creation of a learning society as well as attaining the Education for All policy under the Millennium Development Goals.
He explained that the Institute has sent proposals to the authorities of the University of Ghana for approval to change its name and said based on the new outcome, the Institute will use the new name next year.
Professor Oheneba-Sakyi said this in Accra when he briefed the press on this year's Annual New Year School which commences on January 2 and ends on January 9, 2009.
The school provides a platform for discussing issues affecting the development of Ghana and also providing a forum for the initiation of public policy.
'The school will also focus on how to widen access and equity in education provision, how to achieve peace and democratic governance through public education, and how to improve mortality rates through education for healthy living, among others,' the Director stated.
Dignitaries who will participate in the school include Busumuru Kofi Annan, Chancellor of the University of Ghana; Prefessor Nii Boye Tagoe, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana; Mr Tony Oteng Gyasi, chairman of the University Council and president of the Association of Ghana Industries.
