Nana Addo must denounce the bogus 'hit list'

Imagine if the NDC had planted the story stating that the NPP had targeted to kill some prominent Ghanaians if they win the up-coming election. I can imagine Professor Mills rushing to defend Akufo-Addo that he is decent enough not to sit down for something like that to happen in his administration. Sorry his dream administration. Better still, his administration that would not happen. I can imagine Professor Mills not inflaming these blatant lies since even a 10-year-old kid can discern the truth from this false information that is being used to whip up sentiments against Professor Mills.

But instead of defending Professor Mills as somebody who would not sign off on something heinous like that, Akufo-Addo who is so power drunk and is scheming from all angles to win the election at all cost, has kept mute as if he does not know what is going on (Even though he is very much aware that his campaign team is peddling these lies).

Even John McCain, the defeated Republican Presidential candidate at the just ended U.S. elections at a point during his campaign felt enough was enough when he snatched the microphone from a lady at one of his campaign stops who was accusing Barak Obama as being an Arab. One thing Akufo-Addo should learn is that in politics sometimes dirty and blatant lies do not fly with voters but rather turn them off.

I felt so much ashamed when I saw the so-called “hit list” which includes almost “everybody” in Ghana. Truly whoever was paid to come out with the so-called “hit list” did a poor job. I would have done better. The hit squad Mafia or Mafioso made a bad strategic move. Now look at what they did. They know majority of Ghanaians are Christians, therefore, they devised some means to turn Christians away from Professor Mills. And in so doing they brought the names of all the leaders of the leading churches in Ghana.

Talk about the Catholic Church, Lighthouse Chapel, Methodist Church, Central and Royal House among others. Even musicians and actors were not spared. The fake and false 'hit list' goes as far as to include even journalists. The only people whose names I did not see on the 'hit list' were the dead ones. Or did I miss them?

My fellow Ghanaians, lets be frank with ourselves, does this make sense? Do we believe this crap? Is this a good campaign slogan or strategy for the NPP? I thought the NPP is full of decent people who would not use this backward strategy that even the beleaguered President Mugabe of Zimbabwe would not buy. This is not Adolf Hitler's time. Even Hitler would have envied the one who produced such a list.

The NPP has touted its achievements over and over again. The party diehards do not miss any opportunity in telling Ghanaians the remarkable changes they have brought to Ghana. Oh yes, the NPPs achievements are remarkable, but as I write this article a sizeable number of people in Accra and Takoradi do not have water to drink. In fact Kufuor claims he is the best thing that has happened to Ghana. Well, we Ghanaians are not contesting this even though we know that most of the things he says are pure untruths. So the question any person on the street would ask is; “If the NPP government strongly believes it has done so much for Ghanaians, why cannot the party run its campaign on their achievements? I would sell my accomplishments for a job.

Instead, the NPP seems to be running away from its so-called achievements during the closing stages of the campaign. And if a politician is refusing to comment on his achievements but is rather spewing fear and using scare tactics, then as a voter you must be very much aware that they have nothing to sell.

Nana Akufo-Addo, you very much want to be president, which is fine. But do not use dubious means to walk your way to the Presidential Palace. Remember the man whose party also uses your party's ideology, symbol and colours that used dubious means in 2000 to become the most powerful president of the world? Because he took something that did not belong to him through dubious means, the result is what we see today. I am of course talking about President Bush. Even his own party members do not respect him today.

If I were you Nana Addo, I would come out and sharply denounce the so-called “hit list” and inform the world that you are a decent person who would not seek the highest office of the land through dubious means. This is what Ghanaians would want from somebody aspiring to become their leader. Ghana does not want a polarizing figure. It does not need somebody who will divide the country along ethnic and religious lines. As a nation we have come a long way, and this is not the time to let your ambition to become president destroy the country and cause confusion and hatred among Ghanaians.

Nana Akufo-Addo, I have seen you quite often dancing at churches so I presume you are a Christian and therefore know the bible. I hope you know the Book of Esther. When Haman plotted to kill the Jews by spreading false rumours about them to King Zerxes, Mordecai who happened to be the cousin of Queen Esther sent a message to her which I would want to share with you. Mordecai said, “If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance of the Jews will arise from some other place”. If you Mr. Akufo-Addo fail to denounce this so-called “hit list”, God will speak for Professor Mills.

If we have something to fear, my fellow Ghanaians, we should rather fear those who are peddling fear among us. They are up to no good. And if you have nothing to hide, you would not be afraid when you begin to lose grip on power. Nobody should destroy Ghana just because they want to be president.

By the way did anybody spot Dr. Bawumia in Navrongo over the weekend? He suddenly emerged from his undisclosed location to do some campaigning. And what is this noise going on at Graphic Communications Group? That Editor of Graphic, Ransford Tetteh, is also planting dubious stories in some newspapers that he is going to be dismissed if the NDC wins the election. Even though it's harmattan season, this political atmosphere has turned Ghana into a planting season. If that is the case, then lets all plant seeds of friendship and love during this Christmas. Afrenhyia Pa OOOOO.
