Mornah Joins NDC

Bernard Mornah Bernard Mornah, General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC) has thrown his weight behind Prof. Evans Atta Mills, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the December 28 presidential run-off.

He said between the two candidates, Prof. Mills was a better man to lead Ghana to prosperity, compared to Nana Akufo-Addo.

Speaking to DAILY GUIDE in an exclusive interview at Techiman in the Brong Ahafo region, on his way to the Upper West region, Mr. Mornah said Ghana could not be left behind in the wind of change blowing across the world.

“I've chosen, given my association with Nana Akufo-Addo and given the struggle for a better condition under the tutelage of the Committee for Joint Action, I've seen the calibre and the personality, the humility of Prof. Mills, and I do believe that Prof. Mills is way miles ahead of Nana Akufo-Addo,” he stressed.

The PNC General-Secretary opined that Ghana would be better protected under Prof. Mills. “Ghana would be better fostered; there would be prosperity for all under Mills' presidency, hence my decision to back Mills' candidacy,” he said.

He indicated that he was going round the regions, starting from Brong Ahafo to the Upper West and Upper East regions, to meet with the other executive members of the party to solicit votes for the NDC.

Comparing the performances of the NDC and NPP in previous elections, he stated that the NDC had made progress in the electoral process, especially since the last election.

He said in the 2000 election the NDC got about 42 or 43 percent while in 2004 it improved with about 44 percent, and in 2008 the NDC got almost 48 percent while the NPP declined from 52.4 percent to 49 percent.

“So in another contest the NPP is bound to decline and the NDC is bound to grow. So it is evident that once there is going to be another contest between the NDC and NPP, the NDC progression would continue to multiple by a factor and the NPP decline would continue to multiple by a negative factor and the obvious is that the NPP will lose the election,” Mr. Mornah projected.

When asked if he was supporting Prof Mills for some political appointment or benefit, he said “the motivation is that we should see a change that the people of Ghana can benefit from.

The motivation is that we should be able to move away from the politics of lies.”

“The motivation is the vast majority of people who cannot make ends meet. The motivation is also that when you take the government under the NPP, it has not been able to check the security system; it has allowed the influx of drugs, Ghana has now become a transit point; that personal security has become a danger. We cannot continue to entrust our lives in the hands of the NPP.

We would be doomed forever,” he pointed out.
