THE Awudome Senior High School in the Volta Region, has honoured five of its teachers and non-teaching staff, who won awards at various levels at this year's National Best Teachers and Workers Awards Scheme ceremony held in Sunyani in the Brong-Ahafo Region on October 7.

They are Mrs Alice Gligui-Denueme of the Home Economics department who won the 2008 National Best Second Runner-up in the Vocational category; Mr. Francis Dominic Kudolo, the Regional Best Teacher in the Science and Mathematics category; Miss Lucy Adde, the Regional Best Worker; Mr Christopher Wuasi, District Best Teacher in French and Mr John Jerry Atsu, the Municipal Best Teacher in General Arts.

The school's management, the Board of Governors and the Tsito Community, last Wednesday, held a durbar to show appreciation and to honour the teachers and staff whose dedicated and committed services, had lifted the image of the school as well as community.

In a citation, the headmaster, Mr Geoffrey Bonuedie, described  Mrs Gligui-Denueme as a disciplined teacher who is committed and dedicated to the service both in and outside the classroom.

He recounted many achievements the school has recorded throughout the 46 years of its existence where a number of its products were now heads of various educational institutions in the country, various honours won by some teachers and workers of the school and the many academic laurels won by the students.

The acting Ho Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Anos K. Agyeman, commended the award winners for making “the teaching profession, the school, the region, and the Tsito community proud through their excellent performances”.

He said the Best Teacher Awards scheme was instituted to honour and recognise the immense contributions teachers had made towards the nation's developmental goals.

Mr Agyeman appealed to the teachers to see themselves as role models to society most importantly in the communities where they work.

He appealed to the government, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports and other stakeholders as well as well-meaning citizens to contribute their quota towards the right respect to the teachers.

The chairman of the Volta Regional Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior Schools, Mr Geoffrey Bissi, reminded the teachers that achievements come with hard work and the tenacity of purpose, adding that, great achievers need to be rewarded and deserve commendation.
