Atta Mills Professor John Evans Atta Mills, flag-bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said that after touring the country, he has no doubt that he would be president after the December 7 general elections, and has therefore asked President John Agyekum Kufuor to prepare to hand over peacefully to him on January 7, 2009 as the next president of the country.

In what could be described as his last appeal to the numerous NDC supporters in the Greater Accra region to massively vote for the party to enable it take over the management of the economy, Prof Mills noted that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had failed Ghanaians and that it was time the NDC was voted back to power.

He indicated that living conditions in the country were better during the NDC's administration than they currently are under the NPP administration. He asked that if the Kufuor-led government could not boast of any significant change in the country after their eight years rule, how different would the NPP flag-bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo perform.

He told the rally that the first thing he would do as president after December 7 would be to reduce the cost of petroleum products, adding that the welfare of Ghanaians was dear to the NDC.

Prof Mills paid tribute to the former first family and P. V. Obeng for their continuous support to the party.

Former President Rawlings, taking his turn to address the party faithful, charged them to vote massively to kick the NPP government out of power. He mentioned that there was a lot of corruption and drug trafficking in the system and blamed the NPP for the hardship Ghanaians were going through.

He labelled the NPP as a party full of self-seeking politicians, who lied to Ghanaians that they would create jobs for the youth within their first 90 days of being in office. Former President Rawlings asked Ghanaians to ensure they did not repeat the mistake they made four years ago when they voted for the NPP, and referred to December 7, 2008 as the day of liberation.

The crowd defied an earlier downpour and waited for the arrival of the former President and the party's presidential candidate.

Party gurus like E. T. Mensah, Asiedu Nketia, Elvis Afriyie and Sherry Aryitey all took turns to address the rally. From Razak Mardorgyz Abubakar & Kenneth Yankah, Tema
