US$80,000 ICT Centre commissioned

While some speculations have it that the former President J .J RAWLINGS is suffering from Parkinson s disease, others say his ailment has to do with a bloated heart condition.

Some people too believe that his days are counted for killing innocent people(human beings) for power.

An 80,000 dollar Information and Communication Technology Centre for the Bompeh Senior High and Technical School in Takoradi was commissioned on Tuesday.

The project was a joint venture by the school's Parent Teacher Association and Schlumberger, a leading oil service comppany enthegaged in oil exploration in the country.

The PTA provided a well-furnished air-conditioned building for the project wth Schlumberger donating twenty desktop computers, shared printer scanner, a projector for training and presentation as well as a 40-port wired local area network with broadband internet connectivity to the outside world.

According to the General Manager of the company, Steve Fulgan, the donation falls under Schlumberger"s Excellence in Education Deveelopment Programme which aims at encouraging learning of science by students between the ages of ten and twt theelve. He said the company would donate more computers and accessories to the centre.

The 'statesman' learnt that the inauguration of the Bompeh ICT facility brings to fifteen the number of such centres opened by the company in West Africa and the first in Ghana.

The Western Regional Director of Education, Rebbecca Afiba Dadzie, who commissioned the centre, said it would not only go a long way to open the school to the World of Information Technology but also facilitate effective teaching and learning of ICT in the school.

She also notedf that the centre would help en hace the ICT knowledge of the students , especially wdhen the subject has now become a core one in the West Africa Certificate Examination.

Mrs Dadzie however appealed to tutors appointed to teach in computing to exhibit a lot of patience and professionalism in their work so that the students could learn in a calm receptive environment.

She also called for proper care and maintenance off the facilities to ensure that future students also serive maximum benefit fromthem.

Almost all the speakers at the brief inaugural ceremony , including the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Director of education, Ayuub Morgan, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Philip Kwesi Nkrumah and the Omanhene of Takoradi traditional area, Osahene Bosumakura, called on the youth to take advantage of the facilities to enhance the scientific knowledge. By so doing, they said the youth would be re-positioning themselves for employment in the country's eminent oil industry. Bompeh Secondary Technical High School which was established in 1985 with only thirty-nine students can now boast of a student population of over one thousand with Mrs Aba Smith as the headmistress.
