Go! Nana Akufo Addo, Go!

Go! Nana Akufo Addo, Go!

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo Four days away from today, December 7, the people of this great nation will decide between moving forward or changing the momentum of growth and thus restoring the old order of socio-economic stagnation and arbitrariness of the highest order.

We trust though that most Ghanaians would prefer the former so that their Motherland can move forward at a faster pace, towards the Promised Land of economic growth and prosperity, where the rule of law will be a major feature of governance.

We have come a long way from the doldrums of the 80s and the thuggery of the 90s and trust the judgment of Ghanaians, who have become more discerning since the curtains were drawn over the dark days of “we no go sit down make dey cheat us” days.

The days of darkness are behind us and we should not make any attempts at changing the prevailing wind of progress and good governance, which have won for us the reverence of the international community.

The contestants have spoken about what they can do for the nation in a country endowed with a newfound freedom of expression, a feature which in the previous political order some of them managed, was anathema.

Some daring politicians bruised themselves badly and even fatally for attempting to express themselves in the then unfriendly political atmosphere when economic progress was a high risk factor.

Today the foregone are history and the sky is the limit for those who can take the risk of investing in business even as managers of the old order seek a return to the corridors of power.

It is not for nothing that foreign banks, many of them, are pitching camp on our shores. They have caught a glimpse of the potentials in our economy and above all the stability which has become a dominant feature of the country.

While some of the presidential contestants have promised a forward movement towards prosperity others have asked for a change in a rather ambiguous fashion which cannot be fathomed by the ordinary voter.

Whereas a forward movement implies taking further strides towards progress, change, especially as being refrained by those who ruled this country for nearly twenty years can only mean one thing- a reversal of the existing hallmarks of the incumbent government.

Asking for the expansion of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison to contain those they consider thieves and making unacceptable utterances can only mean a hectic period of vengeance and settling of scores by those aping “change” all over the political terrain, in the unlikely event of winning Sunday's polls.

A country which badly needs to operate on an even keel at this time of its development cannot definitely cope with the politics of vendetta and outright diabolism.

The umbrage of one man's frustration should not be visited on the whole country especially as we are about to witness a new economic feature of oil production.

It would be inimical to the national interest to have the former president come near the corridor of power having heard him declare regrets for handing over power after his party lost the 2000 elections.

Since a vote to the said party is an agreement that the former president returns to power, because of his overbearing influence in that political grouping, we can only state that the status quo is given another mandate to run the country.

It is a worldwide norm for independent newspapers to endorse the candidacy of presidential candidates in elections. This way they support the readership to make informed decisions over which of the parties should attract their nods.

As a responsible and influential newspaper which has fought dictatorship and adversaries of democracy through worthwhile exposure of those playing lip-service to Ghana's progress we hereby endorse the candidacy of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the next President of the Republic of Ghana.

Ghana has passed through chequered moments in her brief political history from 1957.

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo represents that forward movement which the country yearns for, a hallmark of his vision for the country that he so loves that he has decided to serve her with all his heart and might at the highest level.

We cannot but endorse the candidacy of this self-made man whose only reason for seeking the highest office of the country is just so he can serve his compatriots, not for vengeance, nor to thrust his colossal might in the face of frightened Ghanaians, a return to the culture of silence and timidity.

In the matter between lies and truth we would play no neutral role as we would stand side by side with the advocates of this virtue.

Here is therefore to inform Ghanaians that we are mincing no words in recommending to the good people of Ghana that a vote for Nana Akufo-Addo is a vote for progress and a Ghana without ado.

The progress chalked by President John Agyekum Kufuor leading his NPP government, are too numerous for this space. Suffice it though to state that these can be categorized into tangible and intangible achievements.

In the area of the tangibles we are referring to such things as the numerous infrastructural development, as roads, schools, hospitals, bridges, dams, flyovers, water, buses, all sorts of vehicles and transportation for the security agencies, teachers, farmers, doctors, all-year flow of food and God-blessed rain, investor freedom, and the intangibles like free speech, uninterrupted sleep, and the new image that has been bestowed on the Ghanaian persona.

Today, as  Sunday D-Day draws near DAILY GUIDE says Go Ghana Go, and let Nana Akufo-Addo, lead you into further growth and prosperity! Certainly that is a new dawn and a fresh phase for the country to move on after the positive exploits of the Gentle Giant! AMEN!
