Bible Society Joins Peace Train

Ms Aryee giving out a sticker to promote peace THE BIBLE Society of Ghana has joined the national peace campaign, with a call on Ghanaians to ensure utmost peace before, during and after the December 7 elections.

The Society, under the chairmanship of Ms. Joyce Rosalind Aryee, has printed a total of 20,000 stickers in English, Ga, Twi, Ewe and Dagbani, highlighting peace messages to be distributed to both private and commercial drivers throughout the country.

Greater percentage of the stickers, which carry a Bible message on peace, quoted from 2 Corinthians 13:11, has already been given out by volunteers engaged by the Society.

The move by the Society was meant to educate Ghanaians on what the Bible says about peace and encourage them to strive for peace during the nationwide voting process.

“If our country will see peace before, during and after these elections, we need to learn to agree with one another irrespective of our differences in opinions and beliefs, and make a public commitment to live in peace with one another.

“We hope that the message carried by these stickers will inform and educate our people about the need to pursue peace,” noted Rev. Kofi Owusu, General Secretary of the Society at the launch of the Society's 'Peace For Ghana Campaign' in Accra.

He spoke gravely about the reported violent clashes in some parts of the country, and warned that matters could get worse if Ghanaians failed to heed the call by the Government and civil society groups for peace.

He pledged the Society's support for moves that would ensure that the country's peace is protected.

Ms. Joyce R. Aryee, who officially launched the campaign, called on Ghanaians to be guarded by utmost discipline in preparation towards the elections.

Quoting Romans 12:17-19, Ms Aryee urged political party leaders and their supporters not to pay evil for evil but be guided by God's mercies and forgive each other.

More than GH¢8,000, she revealed, was spent on the printing of the stickers.By Grace Eyram Dartey
