Alhaji Mohammed Ashkar, Greater Accra Regional Coordinator of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Zongo Caucus, has reiterated the call on the youth in Zongo communities not to allow politicians to use them for violent activities.

Alhaji Ashkar said the Zongo youth must contribute their quota towards protecting the peace in Ghana, instead of fuelling violence in exchange for money.

He made the call at Ashaiman when he inaugurated the Ashaiman constituency branch of the party's Zongo caucus.

He urged the youth to acknowledge the importance of peace to the country's development, noting that development would be impossible without peace.

Alhaji Ashkar entreated Zongo residents to massively vote for the NDC during the December 08 general elections, indicating that, with the exception of Kwesi Mintin, a suburb of Takoradi, the party won in 237 out of the 238 Zongo communities across the country.

He charged the residents to intensify their campaign to ensure that the ruling New Patriotic Party loss the general elections.

Alhaji Moro Akakade, chairman for the occasion, entreated the residents to prove to the public that Zongo communities do not promote lawlessness.

Alhaji Akakade said it was time people discarded the notion that only Muslims, northerners, criminals and illiterates reside in the Zongo communities, noting that, other ethnic groupings and religious groups could be found at the communities.

He said the caucus must not only concentrate on political issues but should also work towards improving the image of their communities.
