The Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that development and insecurity cannot be bed fellows.
He said there is no country, region or town that can be developed without peace so for development to exist there must be absolute peace.
Dr Bawumia is therefore calling on journalists and media practitioners in the three northern regions to refrain from beating war drums and rather preach peace to their listeners and readers.
The NPP's number two man, made these observations when he met media practitioners in Tamale where he is currently touring and canvassing for votes for his party.
According to him, the constant impression that is created that the north is volatile scares away possible investors who are likely to set up companies and industries to create employment and bring development to the people.
"For any individual or group of persons to decide to invest in a particular community or town, they need to be assured of their own security, that of their employees as well as that of the entity itself, that is paramount on every business man"s mind', he opined.
'Peace is a prerequisite to development, that is why it is very paramount for us to have peace and tranquillity up north so that it will serve as a bait, not only to draw investors up north but also ensure that the basic tenets of development are well taken care of and not destroyed', he added.
The former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana noted, it is only when peace has been attained in the north that the developmental gap between the north and the south can be bridged.
He used the opportunity to call on media practitioners to base their stories relevant campaigns issues and ignore politicians who incite people for their own parochial interest.
