New SRC takes over at Catholic University

The Vice Chancellor of the Catholic University College of Ghana (CUCG), Fiapre, Professor James Hawkins Ephraim, has expressed his gratitude to the staff and students of the university, for their cooperation and tolerance.

He commended their efforts in the midst of all the challenges associated with the change and movement to the new site, since August this year.

He urged the new executives of the Students Representative Council (SRC), to be adequately prepared to face the inevitable challenges, and overcome them with strong determination.

Professor Ephraim was addressing students and staff at the SRC handing-over ceremony, which was preceded with a Eucharistic celebration, presided over by the Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Michael Ntow.

The Vice Chancellor pointed out that indeed, the more one learns, the more one realises what he or she does not know, because quality is not what one does right, but how one does it differently.

He, therefore, encouraged the SRC, and the student body, to go the extra mile in their endeavours, as much is expected from them, both internally and externally.

He also entreated them to be sober, diligent and respectful. “You should develop the ability to listen and dialogue meaningfully, in the interest of the simply majority,” he stressed.

The Vice Chancellor asked the executives of the SRC, to always call on the university's authorities, in order to tap their experiences and add to their intelligence, to succeed in their mandate.

Administering the Oath of Office, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Nuhu, implored the SRC executives to be tolerant, transparent and focused.

“You must be flexible to welcome criticisms, suggestions and good counsel from among your fellow students, to enhance student administration on campus,” he advised.

Dr. Nuhu thanked the outgoing SRC for their cooperation, and tasked the students to overcome mediocrity, indecency and other vices on and off campus, to preserve and protect the good image of the university.

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Florence Ziniel, the first female SRC President of the University, thanked the students for the confidence placed in her.

She acknowledged the challenges associated with the office of the SRC President, and urged students to offer constructive criticisms, suggestions and solutions, to the numerous challenges facing the university.

Ms. Ziniel appealed to her fellow students, to be morally, ethically and physically upright, circumspective and decent in their discourse.

She charged the student body to contribute meaningfully, as partners in developing the university.

The outgoing SRC President, Mr. Emanuel Amankonah, asked his colleagues to maintain good sanitary conditions on campus.

He advised the students to settle their fees in good time, to enable the council carry out its programmes.

Mr. Amankonah appealed to the new SRC, to live above personal interest, and seek the welfare of all students.

Professor Ebow Mensah, Dean of Economics and Business Administration, Mr. Emmanuel K. Kaba, Senior Assistant Registrar, and Fr. Patrick Nkrumah, Dean of Religious Studies, were among the staff present at the ceremony.
