Oguaamanhen urges political party activists to shun violence

The Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, on Thursday said politics in the country was gradually maturing and therefore party activists need not engage in violence to champion their cause.
Osabarimba Kwesi Atta pointed out that just as people of different religious backgrounds could relate well and co-exist peacefully, political opponents should also do same to ensure that the peace in the country was not disturbed.
He made the remarks when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, paid a courtesy call on the Oguaa Traditional Council at Cape Coast as part of his campaign tour of the Central Region.
“Politics in Ghana is maturing and therefore should be rid of any intimidations, violence and insults,” Osabarimba Kwesi Atta reiterated and urged Ghanaians to refrain from acts that could bring about chaos during the elections.
Dr Bawumia assured the chiefs that NPP will not endorse any act of indiscipline from its members and re-affirmed the commitment of the Party to ensure violence-free vote.
He asked the chiefs to support the electoral process by educating their subjects to eschew violence and ensure incident-free elections in December.
Dr Bawumia later addressed two separate rallies at Apewosika and Kotokuraba where he urged the people to vote for the Party in appreciation for its good policies.
He mentioned freedom of speech, National Health Insurance Scheme, free maternal care, capitation grant, school feeding programme and National Youth Employment Programme as some of the positive developments brought about by the Kufuor administration to enhance living standards.
Mr Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, Deputy Minister of Energy, who accompanied Dr Bawumia, expressed optimism that NPP will win all 17 seats in the Central Region and asked the Party's supporters to win more people into their fold to ensure victory.
The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur also urged the electorate to vote massively for the NPP to enable it to continue the good works of President Kufuor.
