Osei-Owusu Launches Campaign

A Large crowd of supporters at the weekend attended the campaign launch of Mr Joe Osei-Owusu, the Independent Parliamentary aspirant for the Bekwai Constituency at Ofoase-Kokoben in the Bekwai Municipality.

At about 8.30 a.m., enthusiastic supporters of the former boss of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) had started gathering at the Ofoase-Kokoben Municipal Junior High School Park, the venue of the event.

At 11 a.m. the whole place was raised to the rafters and speaker after speaker was full of praise for Mr Osei-Owusu.

They said his contribution to the development of the constituency was a clear justification that when voted to Parliament, he could do much more for the constituency.

They said through his influence, many people, especially the youth, were in employment and that he had linked many businesses to credit facilities.

They called on the constituents to support his bid by voting for him in order to continue with his good work for the people.

When Mr Osei-Owusu, popularly called "Joe Wise", was introduced to the crowd, most of whom were wearing "T-shirts" with his picture imprinted on them, there was wild applause for him, and some were even heard saying "this is our man to lead us to the paradise."

His “T-shirt” had his picture in front and a "Star" symbol at the back.

Mr Osei-Owusu told the gathering that he resigned from his place of work in order to represent his constituency in Parliament as well as lead them from economic doldrums to prosperity.

He noted that the constituency lacked many facilities, including classrooms, roads and water, and stressed that this was mainly due to leadership problems.

He said that the government had made all available resources and it was, therefore, not President Kufuor who had to go to the constituency to develop the area.

Rather, he said, the Member of Parliament (MP) and other government representatives there had to ensure that the constituency had its share of the national cake.

He said when given the nod, he would see to the improvement of education in the constituency by placing premium on science education.

The parliamentary aspirant noted that the welfare of teachers would also be his concern, adding that when the teachers were well catered for, they would offer their best.

He said he would also ensure that teaching improved their capacity so as to impact the right type of knowledge to the youth who, he said, were the future leaders.

He also said the role of farmers would be recognised, and further stressed that farmers would also be given the necessary encouragement for them to produce more to feed the constituency and the country as a whole.

He said he would also see to it that agricultural produce was preserved and processed to add value to them.
