KNUST-MSA screens inmates of Kumasi Kids Home

THE MEDICAL Students Association, of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST-MSA), last Saturday embarked on a day's medical screening of inmates of the Kumasi Children's Home in Kumasi, as part of its social responsibility.
The student body also fulfilled its annual obligation, by donating items, including 100 mosquito nets, 300 story books and picture aids, foodstuffs and food supplements like vitamins, stationery and toiletries, as well as three bags of rice, 15 boxes of biscuits, and three cartons of Ideal Milk, estimated to cost GH¢1,160, excluding cost of drugs used for the Mini Clinic.
Twenty medical students undertook the exercise, which screened for eye infections, malaria, and dermatological conditions of the 106 inmates of the Home, some of whom were also de-wormed and their wounds dressed.
The occasion was also used to teach personal hygiene, and advice on which cases should be reported to hospitals.
The programme was intended to raise the level of consciousness, and patriotism among the young would-be doctors, to enable members participate purposefully, meaningfully and actively on health issues, and ensure effective health education, through the organisation of seminars, and health outreach programmes.
The day's activities of the Association were sponsored by the Ghana Malaria Control Programme, EPP Bookshop and Euro Foods.
