NEW: Ghana Tourist Villas offers an unforgettable holiday and business experience in Accra.
Six Junior High Schools in the Greater Accra Region, are to compete for honours in essay writing on Malaria eradication and the Environment, in Accra next month.

The event, being initiated by Add Your Voice Now, a Non-Governmental Organization championing the cause of malaria eradication in the country, is aimed at sensitizing the youth on the need to observe environmental cleanliness which is the root cause of the disease..

Mr Kwabena Osei Bonsu, Chief Executive of the company, announced these at the launch of the event, in Accra on Monday.

He named the schools as Kotobabi, Madina, Nima, James Town Mamprobi and Chorkor Junior high schools.

Mr Osei Bonsu said malaria kills an African child every 30 seconds, adding that many children who suffer an episode of severe malaria may suffer from learning impairment or brain damage.

He said pregnant women and their unborn children are also particularly vulnerable to malaria, which was one of the causes of peri-natal mortality, low birth-weight and maternal anaemia.

Mr Osei-Bonsu expressed the hope that the children would give of their best and also learn more about the environment and malaria prevention.

Similar exercises would be extended to the other regions in due course, Mr Osei Bonsu added.
