Mr. Bishop Akolgo, Executive Director of Integrated Social Development Centre (ISODEC), has urged government to give much attention to education, health and the water sectors.
He observed that education, health and water were so essential to the development of the citizenry and should be given the needed attention it deserved.
Mr Akolgo was speaking at a three-day workshop, organized by the Ghana Coalition of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on health issues, and facilitated by ISODEC in Bolgatanga.
The 75 participants who were drawn from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions were heads of NGOs working in the health sector and civil society organizations.
The workshop which was funded by the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana was aimed at building the capacity of members of the Coalition on rights-based advocacy issues on health.
Mr. Akolgo called for the initiation of effective mechanisms to check the disbursement of monies for the development of the three sectors.
The event was also aimed at empowering members of the Coalition to enable them to contribute to formulation of health policies.
It was also to strengthen their watchdog role to help expose malfeasance in the health sector and check inefficiency in healthcare administration.
Participants were taken through topics including Advocacy for social justice, rights and governance, principles of advocacy and networking and formation of coalitions.
