Presby Pastor warns: Danger ahead for Ghana if...:

The Western Regional Chairman of the Western Presbytery, Rev. William N. B. Appiah, has observed that the relative peace prevailing in the country will eventually elude us if measures are not put in place to curb the rising uneasiness and unrest in some parts of the country.

According to Rev Appiah, it is only by the grace of God that the violence prevailing in some parts of the Northern Region has not escalated to other parts of the country, indicating that stringent measures should be put in place to address them immediately.

Rev. Appiah gave the advice during the 51st National Convention and Thanksgiving ceremony of the Presbyterian Singing Band Union of Ghana in Cape Coast, last Saturday.

The programme, which was under the theme "Put on the whole armor of God,” brought together all the Regional Singing Band groups of the church in the country.

He noted that Ghana was not completely a peaceful country as is being speculated, citing the drug menace and soaring armed robbery cases among others, as examples of the vices that did not make the country peaceful.

Rev. Appiah has therefore warned that if care was not taken the December 7 polls would not go the way Ghanaians wanted it, taking into consideration the violence that has characterized the recent limited registration exercise, and warned politicians to stand up to the challenge of promoting peace in their campaign.

He again noted that some politicians adopt deceptive propaganda to solicit for votes from the electorate and urged the congregation to use their medium to rescue the sinking image of the nation, by preaching to people about the essence of truth and honesty.

According to Rev. Appiah, the church was in the best position to fight for the betterment of the society by adopting truth, righteousness and honesty as main principles of development to take the nation to the heights it deserves.

The Oman hen of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, who was the 'special Guest of Honour at the function, stressed the need for the church to reach out to people with the message of peace, in order to ensure a peaceful poll in the December election.

He again stressed on the need for unity and love for one another, stressing that there was need for parents to nurture their children in the spirit of the fear of God, in order to promote peace in the country.
