A DRIVER who allegedly abducted a 14-year-old pupil when she left home for school and defiled her for four days has found himself in the grips of the law.
The accused person, George Kofi Morkli, who resides at Nungua, was arraigned before an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Judge N.E.K. Osam charged with abduction and defilement.
His plea was not taken and has been remanded to reappear on September 10, 2008.
Chief Inspector C. Amuzu-Srofenyi, the prosecutor, told the court that the complainant is a trader and mother of the primary school pupil while the accused person, a driver, lives in the same vicinity as the accused.
According to him, on July 7, 2008 the victim left for school and never returned so her mother went looking for her in the neighbourhood while her classmates told her they had no idea of the whereabouts of the girl.
He said after several days of searching, the woman was informed that her daughter was in the room of Morkli so she proceeded to his house but did not see the accused person or her daughter. She however saw her school bag and took it home.
The police officer continued that the following day, the victim's mother went to Morkli's house and upon interrogation her daughter confessed that it was the driver who abducted her and constantly defiled her.
He said the mother of the alleged defiled pupil was sent to the police station where a complaint was lodged and a medical form issued for her to attend hospital.
The accused person was then arrested and put before court.
In a related development, a watchman in the house of a French Diplomat has been dragged to court for causing unlawful damage to their properties while he and his family were away.
John Koomson, the accused person, who is charged with unlawful entry in the same court, has been remanded to reappear on 10 September, 2008, while the charge of stealing electrical appliances worth thousands of Ghana Cedis preferred against him, is yet to be proven.
The facts of the matter as presented by Chief Inspector Peter Benneh were that the accused person is a night watchman in the house of the complainant and had been given accommodation at the boy's quarters.
He said on June 6, 2008, the diplomat and his wife travelled to France leaving the accused person to take care of the house but on their return on June 15 they found the house empty as if someone had broken into it, with electrical appliances and household items missing.
At that time, the prosecutor said, Koomson was nowhere to be found.
The couple therefore lodged a complaint with the police and on August 23, the police had a tip-off that the watchman was at Agbogbloshie. He was traced there and arrested.
The police officer noted also that the complainant even identified the sandals then being worn by the accused person at the time of his arrest as one of the items stolen from the house.
Mr. Benneh said during interrogation the watchman admitted that the pair of sandals was that of his master and was consequently arraigned after investigations.
