THE CHIEF Executive Officer (CEO) of Africa Media Aid (AFRIMA), Mr. Raphael Godlove Ahenu Jnr., has stated that despite the abundant natural resources, development will continue to elude Africa unless the continent is blessed with a new breed of leaders who would not be power drunk and greedy.

Presenting a paper on the topic- “NGOs and the Youth” at the just ended international youth leadership camp at Don Bosco Vocational/Technical Institute at Odumase, near Sunyani, the CEO of AFRIMA hinted that his organization would soon launch a campaign dubbed, “Crusade for new Africa.”

According to him, AFRIMA would achieve its goal by playing the role of an agent of change through the creation of a vibrant media on the continent, tasked to vigorously re-orient the minds of Africans.

He said the vision of his organization was to help in transforming Africa from its present state of economic enslavement, extreme poverty, wars and conflicts, corruption and hunger as well as laziness, among other things, to become a peaceful and comfortable land worth living in.

“Africa must no longer continue to be like vultures on a refuse dump, strutting over the refuse of the western world, but rather Africa must make the welfare of humanity our main goal, work hard and proudly point out the products of African technology worldwide”, lamented Mr. Ahenu Jnr., and he also urged the youth of Africa to join the crusade to enable the campaign achieves its goals.

He noted that the socio-economic problems facing Africa has led to the migration of its people in search of greener pastures abroad, a situation which continued to put Africa second fiddle to the so-called advanced continents.

Mr. Ahenu Jnr. hoped that with the support of the youth and all those who love to see a new Africa, his organization would expose the problems facing the continent and find suitable ways of solving them.

The two-week youth camp, sponsored by the European Community and was part of a project dubbed “Youth in Action; Together for Development”, attracted over 130 youth from Ghana, Poland and Greece. The main objective of the project was to empower young people, especially those in developing countries like Ghana and Peru with leadership skills and basic social knowledge.

The Sunyani Diocesan Youth Chaplain, Joe Countess, advised the youth to take time to read their bible since it the fountain of wisdom. He called on the youth to eschew negative acts that could endanger their future.

In his observation, the Project Coordinator, Fr. Peter Wojnarowski, commended the participants for their enthusiasm and urged them to put into practice whatever they learnt during the camp.
