The Tema Regional Police CID has handed over two suspected criminals to the Larteh Police for stealing a taxi from a driver at Larteh and attempted selling it at Ashaiman.
The two, Kwasi Adu, a 23-year-old driver and Yaw Anim, a 25-year-old carpenter were arrested by some soldiers who feigned interest in buying the Suzuki Esteem Taxi cab with registration number GS 3513 Y for GH¢3,000.
Adu and Anim both residents of Adukrom attacked the driver of the car, inflicted multiple knife wounds on him and robbed him of the taxi cab during
the early hours of July 23.
The Tema Police Public Affairs Officer, Inspector Olivia Turkson told the Ghana News Agency on Friday that a brother of one of soldiers informed them of the suspicious manner the two were offering the car for sale in the Ashaiman township at about 1630 hours on the same day.
She said Adu upon interrogation by the police vehemently denied stealing the vehicle, stating however that, he bought the unregistered car from Yaw Adam, a trader who operates between Koforidua and Lome, Togo at the cost of GH¢2,200.
Adu, who claimed Anim has no knowledge of the transaction said with the help of another friend whose name was not given; the taxi was registered using the document of an accident car.
The Public Affairs Officer noted that at about 1930 hours the same day, Police personnel from Larteh informed the Regional CID that the two suspects attacked a taxi driver at about 0500 hours at Larteh, inflicted knife wounds on him and robbed him of the taxi, the victim is currently on admission at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
In another development the police arrested a 27-year-old Charles Lawson on July 27 at about 1215 hours at the industrial area for possessing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Inspector Turkson said Lawson told the police during interrogation that he bought the leaves from a Dagomba man at site two, community one for his personal use adding that he would be arraigned before court soon.
Meanwhile the Tema Circuit Court 'A' has remanded Alexander Igwe, 37 and Albert Ayamba, 23 into prison custody for possessing 19 wrappers of whitish substance suspected to be cocaine.
Policemen on day patrol on July 27 at about 1200 hours arrested Igwe and Ayamba on board an unregistered Fiat Tipo Saloon car with one other person who is at large at site two, community one.
