People’s power for development issues for communities

Peoples power for development issues for communities
13.07.2008 LISTEN

Fellow Ghanaians in Diaspora each and everyone have a responsibility to engaged and share our experiences of community engagement with our people back home.

Although such initiatives are in Ghana by adding what we have also learnt from being abroad with help to strengthen the community engagement benefits to every regions.

Fellow Ghanaians we need to arm our communities to be outspoken and assertive in seeking what they are entitled to.

The entitlements:

Good quality education for their children with purposeful play grounds

Community centres for multipurposeful use by its community

Dental care even if it means only advice giving

Collective waste collection with communities own initiative with cycling in mind

Security measures neighbourhood watch measures

Pressure force to challenge all DCE in every community and see the strategic plan of any community.

All groups of people need to join a form of a union so that they could have a collective voice to force a change. For example, tro tro bookmen, porters, trade association.

Identify issues and work in partnership with DCE for an action plan with timetables to monitor given developments, review that development and evaluate with 6 months. All our people need is to be assertive and quote clearly written manifestos a ruling party had before it was elected to power. This is called people power. Ghanaian should never let any ruling Government lord over them. After all, whom are they serving anyway? Is it the people or themselves?

If Ghanaians remain dormant and not challenging then I 'm afraid we could become like another Zimbabwe type of country. God forbid.

We all need to work together and acknowledge each other abilities and hidden talents.

Ghanaians must acknowledge that being rich is nothing in the eyes of God. Everyone is somebody. It is only our heavenly Father who has the Power to look down on any one of not fellow humans and us. It is only fools who make this mistake that they should lord over their fellow humans.

No community should sit down patiently and wait as nothing will change when such stance is adopted

The people's power means every community must be assertive and demand the money parliament have earmarked for their development.

It is about time community leaders for example chiefs, Mayors, association etc demand to see the budget earmarked and implementation time scales for their community via their DCE.

Community leaders should demand to see the accounts and track report of developments strategy for both short term and long objectives.

This would ensure that every community would see the tanigible outcomes every year and hopefully that progress would be linear.
