Police need the support of the public to fight crime – Andoh-Kwofie

Mr Stephen Andoh-Kwofie, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Director General of Finance of Ghana Police Service on Friday said the police could succeed in the fight against crime with the support and cooperation of the public as partners.

He said the public should volunteer to give the relevant, reliable, complete and timely information to help the police clamp down on criminal activities in the country.

DCOP Andoh-Kwofie made the call when addressing the passing-out parade of 99 Recruits at the Police Training School in Kumasi.

They underwent six months training course in Criminal Law and Procedure, Acts and Decrees, Criminal Investigation and Laws of Evidence.

He said the police administration had already embarked on Crime Education with the Media, Communities and Churches to sensitize them about personal security to ensure peace and order in the country.

DCOP Andoh-Kwofie reminded the recruits of the need to be devoted and committed to duty to protect life and property, while they remained non-partisan and neutral in their work during Election 2008.

He said as part of its efforts to inculcate in the youth the art of policing, the police administration had established more than 20 Cadet Corps in Senior High Schools (SHS) through-out the country to enable the corps offer some degree of protection to their communities.

DCOP Andoh-Kwofie urged the corps to be good role models and work hard to serve their communities.

Five of the recruits who excelled in various disciplines were presented with prizes.

They were, Ruben Seidu adjudged the over all best recruit, Gideon Duut Tamprak, best in academics, Frank Osae Otchere, best in drill, Benjamin Offei-Apenteng, best in physical training and musketry, and Jones Wallace Arhin, best in conduct.

In another development, a 32-member Cadet Corps of Supreme Saviour International School at Tanoso in Kumasi was inaugurated as part of the ceremony.

They were presented with a prize for being the best Ashanti Regional Cadet Corps by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council during the 51st Independence Anniversary Parade in Kumasi this year.
