Mr Dan Kwaku Botwe, a former Minister for Information, was on Tuesday nominated to contest the Okere parliamentary seat on the New Patriotic Party (NPP), ticket for the Election 2008, at Adukrom in the Eastern Region.

He was chosen by popular acclamation after three other persons who filed their nominations to contest the seat were disqualified by the vetting committee on constitutional grounds.

The atmosphere at the Adukrom Presbyterian Church, where the acclamation was made without police presence was peaceful.

The NPP Vice Regional Chairman, Mr Christian Tettey expressed worry over the escalating violence at the party's primaries at Suhum and said that did not augur well for the party.

He said the fact that there was no police presence at the Adukrom event was an indication of political maturity on the part of members of NPP Okere constituency and commended them for their understanding and unity.

Mr Botwe asked the people to burry their differences and unite for the victory of the party in the 2008 Election.

He said in terms of party organization and unity, the Okere constituency was known to be on top and called on the constituency executives to relate well with the supporters to strengthen the base of the party for a massive victory in the 2008 Election.

Mr Botwe said if elected as Member of Parliament (MP) he would fall on the eight years experience of the incumbent MP and said NPP campaign in the Okere would be effective because of his involvement in politics at the national level.
