GNAT marks tenth anniversary of Teacher’s Fund in Eastern Region

Mr Kwadwo Osei-Owusu, Fanteakwa District Director of Education, has called on teachers to be more dedicated and committed to duty in order to improve academic performance of school children in the district.
He said this when the Eastern Regional branch of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) organized a clean-up exercise at Begoro in the Fanteakwa District over the weekend.
The exercise, which formed part of activities marking the 10th anniversary celebration of Teachers Fund, brought together about 300 teachers in the region.
Mr Osei-Owusu said since the introduction of the fund, it had helped improve the living standard of many teachers and advised other teachers who were not contributing to the fund to do so.
Mr Osei-Owusu appealed to the leadership of GNAT to position the fund to take advantage of the Teacher Pension Scheme which would be introduced next year not only as an occupational scheme for teachers but also to open doors to insiders as a private insurance scheme to bring in more dividends.
Ms Rosemond Bampoe, Eastern Regional Trustee of the fund, appealed to contributors to increase their contributions.
Mr Nathaniel Amproti, Eastern Regional Secretary of GNAT, cautioned teachers to protect their pay slip and avoid situations where-by some teachers salaries were deducted wrongly by some high purchase companies.
