Residents of Nkwabeng in Nkoranza South District are spending about GH¢15,000 towards the construction of a police station.
Mr. Kwame Baffoe-Duah, Assembly Member for Yeboasa electoral area told
the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the project was being funded with
a special levy of GH¢ 2 per every household.
He said the station would have male, female and juvenile cells, a main hall and three offices for the Chief Inspector, the detective officer and the officer in-charge of the motor traffic unit.
The Assembly Member added that the community had spent about GHC 3,000 on the project and the people would make additional contributions for its successful completion.
Mr. Baffoe-Duah commended the MP for the area, Mr. Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi, who is Deputy Minister of Energy, for providing 100 bags of cement and 40 pieces of iron rods worth about GHC 1,000 in support of the project.
The management of Kwabre Rural Bank at Akuma in the area has also supported the project with GH¢ 200.
Mr. Baffoe-Duah called on non-resident citizens to contribute towards completion of the project.
Mr. Matthew Agyemang, Assembly Member for Nkwabeng Anarfour electoral area, expressed concern about the poor sanitation in the area as a result of the indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
He cautioned the people against the practice as it posed a threat to their lives and asked them to keep their surroundings clean to avoid the outbreak of an epidemic.
Mr. Agyemang appealed to the Nkoranza South District Assembly to arrange for a grader machine to clearing a refuse dump in the area to enhance good sanitation.
