NUGS unhappy with attempts at resolving Bawku crisis

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Monday said it was not impressed about attempts made so far by the various stakeholders in resolving the Bawku crisis.
"We therefore recommend a holistic approach that would not only involve chiefs and politicians in resolving the conflict, but seriously roping in the youth of the area, especially students in tertiary institutions," it said.
A statement jointly signed by Mr. Kweku Tuoho Bombason, NUGS President and Mr David Damoah, Press and Information Secretary, to mark Republic Day expressed worry at the turn of events regarding the conflict in Bawku among which is the closure of schools.
It said the conflict in Bawku did not only affect human resource development but also the socio-economic development in the area and Ghana as a whole.
It therefore appealed to the youth of Bawku and its environs to marshal all forces to ensure that there was peace, law and order in the Bawku area.
It noted that the significance of Republic Day could not be overlooked, as it was the last signal that Ghana had actually liberated herself from colonialism.
The statement reminded Ghanaians that the main reason for which Ghana became a Republic was not only to liberate citizens from colonialism but also to improve the livelihood and the general welfare of citizens.
It also reiterated NUGS' call on the government to expedite action on the passage of the National Youth Policy.
