Cocaine Baron Busted

A COCAINE BARON, Samuel Mills Robertson was on Sunday busted with 19 bags of cocaine in 380 parcels which he was conveying in a Toyota Landcruiser from Bogoso to Accra.

He was arrested by the Police Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) at Atabadze Junction in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region.

Upon his arrest the 49-year-old man offered a bribe of $5,000 to the MTTU officers in order to be set free, but this was politely declined and he was quickly handcuffed.

Mills Robertson was traveling from Bogoso in the Western Region to Accra in the Toyota Landcruiser with registration number GR 1204 Y in the company of his two Nigerian accomplices, Michael and Chuku.

The Nigerians -Michael and Chuku however fled into the bush and escaped arrest.

Meanwhile as at press time reports indicated that four more Ghanaians had been arrested for questioning.

Briefing the press, DCOP Rose Bio-Atinga disclosed that two weeks ago the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong issued a directive to all regional police divisions to resume duty at the various checkpoints of the country.

She said the Police were asked to place special emphasis on private cars especially four-wheel drives, as they were usually used to transport narcotics.

DCOP Bio-Atinga indicated that police officers on duty at Ataabadze, led by ASP Fredrick Kojo Asare Mensah, had information that a Toyota four-runner vehicle was coming their way with loads of cocaine from Bogoso.

Armed with this information, ASP Asare and his team ordered the driver to stop on reaching the checkpoint.

She stated that upon interrogation, the driver told the police that he had been hired by the two Nigerians to take the 380 slabs of cocaine to Accra and that he would be paid $40,000 for his services.

Robertson claimed that was his first time of carting narcotics and that the vehicle he was using belonged to his brother, a contractor based in Accra.

DCOP Bio-Atinga appealed to the general public to assist the police to apprehend such miscreants.
