THE Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) in consultation with the Bawku Municipal Security Committee has renewed the curfew on Bawku.

This is in the wake of the continuous attacks and counter-attacks between the Mamprusis and Kusasis

The Municipal Information Officer, James Dogbetor, disclosed this to the Times here yesterday after a meeting of the two security bodies.

Meanwhile, the timely intervention of the security personnel at Bawku stalled yet another clash by the two combatants on Monday evening at Gingande, near the new lorry station and Karyama, two places identified as battlefield in the town.

A police source told the Times that a number of the combatants from the two sides took up arms and resorted to sporadic shootings.

They were, however, dispersed by security personnel, comprising the police and the military. There were no injuries or casualties, neither was there any arrest.

The police warned that the security personnel were on the alert and would deal ruthlessly with anybody who dared disturb the relative peace in town.

Meanwhile, two of the 93 suspects arrested during the joint military police swoop after the Buabula attack on Saturday in which 11 people were killed, have been placed in police custody whilst the remaining 91 have been released after screening.

The six suspects who were arrested at Buabula for stoning Amigo, the horse owner to death, have also been detained in custody.

Unconfirmed reports have it that a man suspected to be a thief , who was being chased by some residents was allegedly shot and killed by a policeman yesterday morning.

In another development, another source at Bawku said an old lady was allegedly killed by a stray bullet when the two feuding factions were engaged in a shoot-out on Monday evening during a down-pour.

Meanwhile, seven people, two female adults and five children, admitted at the Bolgatanga hospital in the wake of the Buabula attack are responding to treatment.
