Agona Swedru, June 22, GNA - Elder Kingsley Ampomah, Central Regional President of the Adventist Men Organization of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church, has appealed to candidates in this year's general election to avoid utterances that could inflame passions.
He said there was the need to sustain the peace and stability and to deepen the democratic dispensation to promote the socio-economic advancement of the people.
Elder Ampomah, a lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba, was speaking at the inauguration of the Swedru District branch of the Adventist Men Organization of the Church at Agona Swedru.
He stressed the need for peace to build a sound economy to ensure quality life for the people instead of political upheaval.
Elder Ampomah said religious bodies needed peace to conduct their services at all time and stressed the need to prevent violence and rancour that would not promote freedom of worship enshrined in the constitution.
He called on the candidates to impress upon their supporters to abide by “the rules and regulations of the game” to ensure lasting peace and tranquillity.
Elder Ampomah advised candidates contesting the elections to base their campaign on issues and facts to enable the electorate to make informed choices instead of insults and lies.
He said Ghanaians were matured politically and would not be swayed by vain promises.
