Unemployed jailed 18 months for stealing

  Mon, 09 Jun 2008

The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced a 25-year-old unemployed to 18 months imprisonment for stealing.
Akua Tenewaa, who broke into the room of a neighbour and made away with personal belongings worth GH¢285 at Konongo in the Asante Akim North District, pleaded guilty to two counts of stealing and lawful entry and was convicted on her own plea.
Police Chief Inspector Damankwa, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Jacob Boon, that the complaint was a teacher and lived in the same vicinity with Twenewaa.
The complainant, who for the past few months, had seen experiencing series of thefts in her room, returned from school on May 22 this year, to discover that her room had been broken into.
When she entered the room, she detected that five pieces of wax prints and a DVD player had been stolen.
Having suspected Tenewaa as the perpetrator, confronted her and she admitted the offence and produced the items with the exception of one of the wax prints.
The complaint then reported the case to the police, who affected her arrest and subsequently arraigned her before court.
