Ghana's Minister for Tourism and Diasporan Relations, Hon. Oboshie Sai Cofie
Ghana and Ivory Coast have been urged to collaborate effectively to benefit from the tourism potential of each country.
Ghana's Minister for Tourism and Diasporan Relations, Hon. Oboshie Sai Cofie, during a brief working visit to Abidjan last week to attend a Ghana's Tourism Day and Cultural Exposé said that, 'Our geographic, historical and cultural proximity and nearness mean that our two countries can benefit greatly from tourists who visit either country'.
She invited her counterpart and officials of the Ivorian Ministry of Tourism to collaborate with Ghana to ensure that the two countries take advantage of the integration of the sub-region and also of our peoples and similar cultures to attract visitors from one country into the other, and also attract tourists who visit one country into the other.
Hon Oboshie Sai Cofie was speaking at the opening ceremony of the event at Hotel Le Baron at Port Bouye, a suburb in Abidjan. The event which was organised by a private hotelier, Mr Aboya and facilitated by His Excellency Dr Kabral Blay-Amihere, Ghana's Ambassador to Ivory Coast to showcased Ghanaian culture and artifacts among other things from Ghana.
As part of the programme of activities, Dr Blay-Amihere and an Ivorian Ministry of Tourism team took Hon. Sai Cofie and her delegation to see some of the tourist attractions in the Assini and Grand Bassam area. There, after seeing possible areas of collaborative benefits, the Hon. Minister stressed on the need for the two countries to intensify their tourism promotion activities focusing more on the historical, geographical and cultural links of our people, since most of them are very similar.
She said, ' One of the reasons for accepting the invitation to come here is to see what is done here and create working links with the tourism authorities here so that any partnership or collaboration would be mutual'.
The Hon Minister also used the occasion to extend H. E. President J. A. Kufuor's warm felicitations to the Government and people of Ivory Coast and stressed on Ghana's support and preparedness and continued help in the peace process of the former. Oboshie Sai Cofie pronounced, 'Peace in Ivory Coast means peace in Ghana'.
**In a related development, Ghana's Gyedu Blay Ambulley of 'Simigua Do' fame who had also been invited by H. E. Dr Blay-Amihere rocked at a musical concert on the premises of the Hotel Le Baron with his sensational lyrics and trade-mark 'Chaplain-like' dance last Saturday. The show was a perfect mark to end the four-day Ghana's Day celebrations in the capital of Ivory Coast. Source:
