The Ghana Journalists Association is to formerly report the ex-Central Region Minister, Isaac Edumadze, who is also MP for Ajumaku-Enyan-Essiam, to the Parliamentary Privileges Committee for his release to face prosecution.
The Association will also confer with the Minister of Justice and Attorney General not to shield the MP, alleged to have assaulted a journalist, Mr. Joe Okyere, who is the Central Regional Editor of the Daily Graphic.
GJA President, Ransford Tetteh, told Joy News that a fact finding committee dispatched to Cape Coast to ascertain what actually went on between the journalist and the MP, known for his abrasive nature, established that the MP assaulted Okyere in his (MP's) house on Sunday, May 25.
The Central Regional Police is investigating the alleged assault case, which was said to have taken place after Edumadze lost the constituency primary to contest the 2008 parliamentary elections on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party.
The GJA has vowed to pursue the case to prevent further abuse of journalists and attacks on press freedom.
A witness to the alleged battery, Mr. Philip Baidoo, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) regional correspondent, said he saw the MP biting his victim.
