A number of oil marketing companies have started reducing prices of their products, following a national address by the President last Thursday on the reduction of import duties on some petroleum products.
A visit by the Times to some filling stations in Accra, on Monday revealed that a number of them have accordingly adjusted downwards the prices of their products.
At the Dan's Bar Palace One Total Filling Station at North Kaneshie, the price of diesel now sells at GH¢54 a gallon as against the previous price of GH¢57.
A fuel attendant at the station, Essel Otchehen, told the Times that the price of kerosene has also gone down to GH¢51 from the previous GH¢54.
The Manager of Dans Bar Palace Total Two, Robert Klu, said only the price of diesel has been reduced at the station.
He explained that the station does not sell kerosene.
Diesel now sells at GH¢1.200 per litre, down from the previous GH¢1.254.
Also at the Kaneshie Shell filling station near the Obetsebi Lamptey Circle, a fuel attendant, Jerry Ashong, said the price of diesel had been reduced from GH¢1.191 per litre to GH¢1.253.
At the Goil Filling Station at Circle, the Shift Manager, Paa Yaw, told Times that prices of diesel, and kerosene have been reduced.
He said a litre of diesel which used to sell at GH¢1.254, is now GH¢1.200.
Petrol has been reduced from GH¢1.185 to GH¢1.180 per litre, while the price of Kerosene is GH¢1.189 from GH¢1.135.
At the Fraga Oil station at Circle, a litre of diesel which used to be sold at GH¢1.253, now sells at GH¢1.199.
Mr George Dodoye told the Times that the price of petrol remains the same.
At Allied Oil, Circle, a litre of diesel sells at GH¢1.200 instead of GH¢1.254.
A buyer who declined to have his name mentioned said though there is noticeable price reduction, its impact has not been felt by him.
He says his fears are that, since the world price keeps going up, the price on the local market could shoot up any moment, thereby erasing the little relief being enjoyed now.
A taxi driver also said he has not felt the impact since he usually buys his fuel at flat rate instead of in gallons.
The President in an effort to cushion Ghanaians on the surging fuel and food prices in the country announced last Thursday that excise duty on premix fuel has been removed, while excise duty and debt recovery levies on gas oil, kerosene and marine gas oil have been reduced.
