A Scrap Dealer, Negble Kotoka, who appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court charged with stealing a bus has been remanded in prison custody.
Kotoka whose plea was not taken would re-appear on June 27.
Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri, told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Akrowiah that the complainant, John Agbenyo, was a farmer living at Topease near Asamankese.
He said in 2006, the complainant parked his bus with registration number ER 8157 “C” at an automobile workshop at Asamankese offering it for sale at 1,000 Ghana cedis.
He said Kotoka who saw the vehicle expressed interest in buying it and contacted the complainant who requested him to pay the amount.
The prosecution said Kotoka after examining the vehicle agreed to buy it and promised to come back later for payment.
Chief Inspector Ogyiri said later in that same day when all the workers had left the workshop, Kotoka sneaked in and drove the vehicle away without the knowledge of the complainant.
The following day, he said the complainant was informed that his vehicle was not in the workshop.
He said the complainant immediately suspected Kotoko but could not immediately locate his whereabouts.
On Saturday, May 17, this year, with the help of friends, Kotoka was arrested at his hideout at Suhum and was handed over to the police in Asamankese.
In his investigation cautioned statement, Kotoka said he went to Suhum at the request of the complainant for the vehicle, which he sold at 320 Ghana cedis for scraps.
