Four Nigerian traders have appeared before the La District Magistrate's Court for causing riot and disturbing public peace.
Michael Lucky, Jebril Mamoh, Chuba Ime Okeke and Joseph Ojo have pleaded guilty to the charge of causing riot. They have been bonded to be of good behaviour for one year or in default three months' imprisonment with hard labour.
Their accomplices were Atare Senior, Atare Junior and Lucky Olumu who are at large.
According to Inspector Ofosua, the prosecutor, the accused persons all Nigerian nationals, though were illegally residing in the country, claimed they were traders.
She said Michael and Jebril lived in Nungua, while Chuba and Joseph lived at Taifa-Burkina.
Inspector Ofosua said Michael, Jebril, Chuba and Joseph went and confronted Atare now at large at Teshie First Junction and demanded their share of some money, which was acquired through fraudulent means.
She said Joseph refused to give them their share of the money and told them to go away because he had nothing to give them.
The accused persons were infuriated and an argument ensued which led to a free for all fight.
She said the two men now at large and other Nigerian nationals joined the accused persons in the street brawl at Teshie First Light, thereby causing vehicular traffic.
The prosecutor said in the course of the melee, WO II Richard Nixon Tetteh of the Castle Operations Room, who got held up in the traffic, came out from his car to separate the combatants.
She said when Michael, Jebril, Chuba and Joseph saw the military officer, they quickly ran and boarded their Opel Astra saloon car with registration No. GE 6263 X and started fleeing from the scene.
The accused persons were given a hot chase and arrested at the Teshie Cemetery area.
