The Winneba Police District Command has stated that anybody found with knives, cutlasses and other offensive weapons during the celebration of the coming Aboakyer festival would be arrested and prosecuted.

This is part of security measures the police have adopted to ensure peaceful celebration of the festival that would climax on May 3 this year.

During the celebration of the festival, the two Asafo Companies as custom demands would hunt and capture live bushbuck.

The first animal to be brought to the durbar ground is accepted by the Omanhene, Neenyi Ghartey VII by stepping on it three times and then it is used for customary rites on May 4.

The Winneba District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP) Jordan Quaye issued the directives in a Press statement issued in Winneba on Friday.

He said the police would not tolerate any acts of violence that might spark off street disturbances and warned that nobody should parade the streets of Winneba with clubs, sticks catapults or canes.

Mr. Quaye urged celebrants not be intimidated by Police presence in the town since they would be there in the interest of the public.

He appealed to owners of beach resorts in and around Winneba and owners of hostels with swimming pools to hire services of life guards to save people in case of eventualities.

The Police Commander cautioned those who intend to use the festival to steal and commit other crimes to change their minds because the police would not give them the chance.

Any acts of violence, vandalism, vindictiveness and lawlessness would not be tolerated and culprits would not be spared, he said.
