THE Accra Motor Court presided over by S.O. Diawuo has slapped a fine of GH¢3,360.00 on 13 drivers who were recently videoed by the Police MTTU for unlawful parking.

The drivers pleaded guilty and each was charged with 40 units on four counts such as unauthorized parking, soliciting and picking passengers at unapproved places, causing dangers to other road users and driving without licenses.

Each penalty unit cost GH¢12, which was multiplied by the total count of 40 to run concurrently, or in default, a jail term of four months each with hard labour.

In all, six out of the 13 drivers were without licenses and pleaded guilty accordingly.

They were Ebenezer Boakye, Kofi Mensah, Yahaya Yakubu, Godwin Kobla, Eric Asare, and Samuel Oti Akenten.

Meanwhile, Charles Asare, Philip Tei, Samuel Amaning, George Twumasi and John Arhin were also remanded in prison custody to reappear today, March 31.

One of the convicted drivers, Kwabina Aloudey, was granted bail with an explanation that he was not the one controlling the steering at the time the video was shot, and was asked to produce the driver at the next court session.

Presenting the fact of the matter in court, Chief Inspector Dora Serwaa indicated that the police video captured the drivers at unauthorized places at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle parking and soliciting passengers thus causing traffic on the roads and causing dangers to other road users in the metropolis.

He said the drivers were later arrested and after being shown the video, admitted the offense.
