MUSLIMS LIVING IN the Ashanti Region have been called on to rally behind the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo as the party had demonstrated that it had all Ghanaians at heart.
The founder of the Ashanti Regional Zongo Friends of Nana Akufo-Addo (ZOFONAA), Alhaji Bashiru Baba Waiz made the call in Kumasi after Nana Akufo Addo's visit to the Zongo community during his recent trip to the city.
He stressed that although most Muslim communities in the country seem not to be in agreement with the ideologies of the NPP, the leadership of the party had never shirked their responsibilities in supporting those communities.
Alhaji Waiz stressed that NPP had portrayed itself to all Ghanaians as the only party that could unite the people in the country.
He stressed that under the leadership of the NPP government, Ghana had proved to the whole world that it was a country of peace.
The founder of ZOFONAA stressed that it is important for every Ghanaian to avoid tribalism and the exploitation of religious differences, warning that votes during the 2008 elections should be based on realities.
Alhaji Waiz said Ghanaians have to give NPP another chance by voting for Nana Akufo-Addo during the presidential election to enable him continue with the development projects started by President Kufuor.
He stressed that Nana Akufo-Addo, over the past years, had demonstrated to people in the Muslim communities that he had them at heart, with his numerous cash and material donations.
The NPP flagbearer during his February 28th visit to the Ashanti Region donated GH¢25,000 towards the completion of offices for the Ashanti Regional Council of Ulamawu/Imams.
The donation was in response to a request made to him during his visit to the Kumasi Central Mosque after his election as the NPP flagbearer.
During his visit, the spokesperson for the Ashanti Regional Council of Imams, Sheikh Khalifah Mustapha Kamil (Hujatul Islam) on behalf of the Muslims made a passionate appeal to Nana Akufo-Addo to support them to finish construction of their uncompleted offices in Kumasi.
Alhaji Waiz stressed that as Nana Akufo-Addo is a person free of bias, he had never ceased supporting people in the Muslim communities.
