MCE expresses concern about numerous police points

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effutu, Mr Solomon Abbam Quaye has expressed concern at the numerous police check points on the Winneba Junction-Kasoa road.

According to him there were between four to six check points on the 32 kilometre road and wondered the rationale for that number of police check points..

Mr Quaye said this at the inauguration of the newly created Awutu-Senya district at Awutu Beraku.

The MCE said he had received numerous complaints of "extortion and bribery from drivers, which in my opinion would not help the growth of the district".

He said the Assembly was not against the presence of the police on the road, but “they should not extort money from the drivers”.

"While advising the police I want to appeal to the drivers to do well to observe traffic regulations”, he stated.

On the creation of the new district, Mr Quaye said it behoved on the people to work hard in unity to develop the area and appealed to them to abide by the regulations of the assembly.

He said with the current rate of development at Kasoa, “it would be imperative for all of us to be mindful of how the environment is being destroyed as a result of the growth of the area”.

The DCE warned those putting up structures on waterways and other unauthorized places to stop because the assembly would not accept dangerous development.
