THE MEMBER of Parliament for Suhum constituency has promised to use his office to ensure that his constituents become so proud of their constituency that they would not find it attractive to migrate to Accra in search of 'greener pastures'.

Fred Opare-Ansah said the issue of rural-urban migration was of great concern to him, and that he would do all within his means to drastically reduce the problem as much as possible. “Suhum has all it takes to be a centre of trade and commerce and I have no doubt that if my people get employment opportunities, they would not bother to travel to Accra in search of jobs. I have already done a lot and would continue to make Suhum an enviable place to live in. Those who want to enter into sports would be encouraged, those who want to enter into agriculture would be supported, those who are to be in school would be given that opportunity and those who want to trade would have the market,” the MP told DAILY GUIDE after a tour of some development projects underway in his constituency.

Mr. Opare-Ansah, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Communications, said since becoming MP, his belief in the potentials of the people of Suhum has been strengthened.

“My people can make it. They only need a little push and their economic situation would be transformed. One special thing they have is their community spirit. Anytime I start a project for them, the people are ever ready to help. They build the blocks, carry sand, mix the mortar, protect the building materials, or do one thing or the other. I am encouraged by their commitment to development and would never let them down. I would make Suhum proud and many people would want to visit the town to learn from us,” he added.

Some of the projects the MP inspected included the construction of a sports stadium, a community social centre, a market and a school complex. The contractor in charge of the stadium told DAILY GUIDE the project was 80 percent complete and that what was left was the addition of a dressing room and the grassing of the pitch.

The market centre is expected to be inaugurated by the end of February this year.
