THE Ebenezer Congregation of the Presbyterian Church at Anum-Asamankese has held its annual harvest and thanksgiving service at Asamankese in the Eastern Region.

A total of ¢75 million was realized in an appeal for funds.

Preaching the sermon on the theme: “The God of the living, not the dead,” Reverend Christian Oduro Harmah, Minister in-charge asked all persons to do good whilst they are alive.

He urged christians to speak and stand for the truth and also live honest lives.

He said the theme for the harvest was appropriate since “it is the God of the living who has called Christians to do his work.”

On the act of giving to others, Rev. Harmah told the congregation that there was either blessings or curses in giving and, therefore, urged mankind to give with a free will and offer themselves as a sacrifice to God.

In a brief address read on his behalf, the West Akyem DCE, Kwabena Sintim Aboagye, expressed concern about the poor performance of pupils at the Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) and urged parents to prevent their children from attending funerals.

Mr. Sintim Aboagye appealed to the citizens not to abuse the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) through constant visits to hospitals even when they are not ill.

Touching on the rural electrification programme, the DCE said 34 towns in the district would benefit under the scheme. He explained that there is no compensation for erecting street poles because there are laws on space to leave between houses and streets.

He announced that the Anum-Asamankese Presbyterian Church is one of the beneficiaries of model kindergartens under construction in selected communities.
