Anna Bossman happy with Ghana’s human rights record

The Acting Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, (CHRAJ, Ms. Anna Bossman says Ghana's has steadily improved in its human rights record.

She says over the last seven years, the rate of public awareness of human rights has increased, giving way to greater public discussion on issues affecting people's rights.

Ms. Bossman was speaking at the presentation of a report on the state of human rights in Ghana on Monday as part of activities marking International Human Rights Day in Accra.

She pointed out however that abject poverty, corruption, misery and the lack of justice still persists in large parts of the country

The CHRAJ boss condemned the recent upsurge in mob justice and police brutalities and called on the Inspector General of Police to as a matter of urgency investigate all such human rights abuses.

On the 10th of December every year, Ghana joins the international community to celebrate International Human Rights day. In Ghana, the CHRAJ takes the opportunity to review the country's human rights record and promote dialogue on the responsibility of the state in ensuring that rights-based approaches are employed to eradicate poverty.

This year's celebration, on the theme “Human Rights and Social Justice in Ghana at 50 - Have we come of Age” is especially significant as Ghana celebrates 50 years of independence.
