With the prize money for the top clubs of the 2007/08 Onetouch Premier League pegged at over ¢1.1 billion and a saloon car for the best player of the season, football fans must expect an exciting season when the much awaited local league kicks off at the various centres on Sunday.
According to Professional League Board Chairman Welbeck Abrah-Appiah, the top three clubs at the end of the league would receive ¢100 million, ¢60 million and ¢40 million respectively, whilst the best player of the season drives home a saloon car.
Fans will as well benefit from a reduction of the minimum gate fees, now fixed at GH¢2, whilst each ticket purchased will attract a bottle of Coca Cola soft drink.
The top lining of the week is between defending league champions Accra Hearts of Oak and their traditional local rivals Accra Great Olympics at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra.
The Agosu lads, featuring dependable players like Francis Mantey, Winfred Dormon, Acquah Harrison and Michael Ocansey, have vowed to uproot the Oak tree but the Phobians hae called of the bluff, despite losing the NIIT Cup and ¢100 million to Liberty Professionals last Sunday.
The Phobians, as well have a strong team made up of good old Bernard Don Bortey, Dan Quaye, Adjah Tetteh and youngsters like Kofi Abanga, Samuel Affum and Ernest Okyere to search for the goals.
