DCE Gyato denies slapping charge
18.09.2007 LISTEN

The District Chief Executive for Krachi East in the Volta Region, Mr. Michael Gyato has vehemently denied that he slapped Mr. Colins Castro Ahenkorah during a recent party meeting in Accra. He said Ahenkorah fabricated the whole story just to tarnish his image, as there were several witnesses around who could testify to the fact that he did not slap him, Ahenkorah.

Mr Gyato who was speaking during a meeting with our Acting Editor, Mr. Emmanuel Akli in Accra said knowing the political implications involved, he could not have slapped Mr Ahenkorah, moreover when he is holding public office as DCE.

He said some parliamentary aspirants and Constituency Executives met the National Executives in Accra recently. In the course of the meeting, he said he heard some noise going on downstairs because some of the party supporters who had accompanied them were apparently hungry. Based on this he decided to go down to cool down tempers and to assure them that the food would ready for them.

According to him when he came down, Ahenkorah was around and without any provocation started abusing him. Gyato further narrated that he only warned him to be careful about the choice of words he was using against him and left the scene. The DCE said he was therefore surprised when a Chronicle reporter called him that Ahenkorah had claimed that he had slapped him.

Gyato further told our Editor that the DCE for Kpeve, Madam Woyiram Boakye Dankwa, Constituency Executives from both Nkwanta North and South and South Dayi were all around and they could testify that he did not slap Ahenkorah as claimed. According to the Krachi East DCE he and Ahenkorah had applied for the position as DCE but he was lucky to have been chosen over him. Because of this Ahenkorah appears to have ill feelings towards him and has always tried to destroy his image.

He noted that Mr. Andy Lartey who had confirmed to The Chronicle that he, the DCE had indeed slapped Mr. Ahenkorah as stated in our earlier publication was one of the people who, together with Ahenkorah had taken the party to court so it was obvious he would take Ahenkorah's side since he had come to the meeting purposely to support Ahenkorah.

“I am here to let the whole world know that I did not slap Ahenkorah as he claimed in your publication,” he said.
