Radio station producers and presenters are to benefit from a week of Jubilee radio training programme in mid April.

The training programme which is sponsored by the United States Embassy in Ghana will combine lecture sessions with field reporting and technical training to boost professionalism in the Ghanaian media.

The U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Pamela Bridgewater made this known when she presented delay broadcast equipment to seven selected radio stations at a ceremony in Accra on Friday.

The beneficiary stations are Radio Gold, Joy, Citi, Uniik and Peace FM, all in Accra, as well as Diamond FM in Tamale.

The equipment, manufactured in the U.S. will allow producers to screen out unwanted calls, comments and profanities through brief tape delays while keeping programming tight, focused and professional.

The Ambassador said the donation of the equipment forms part of the US Embassy’s continuing commitment to the professionalisation and training of the Ghanaian media.

She said the donation is also one of the many programmes and events planned to join Ghana in its jubilee celebration marking 50 years of independence. 'It is for this reason that my team and I selected as our jubilee motto, Ghana-US at 50: looking back, moving forward,' she added.

The General Manager of Diamond FM, Edward Ameyibor said the equipment will help the radio stations to be more professional and also improve upon the gate- keeping role of the media.

Mr. Ameyibor lauded the United States Embassy for its continuous support of the Ghanaian media, saying 'your quest for a vibrant media in Ghana is indeed an honourable one.'

He assured the Ambassador that the equipment will be put to good use so as to promote freedom of speech and expression.
