CEPS to discontinue Custom Duties Certificate for Vehicle Registration

THE CUSTOMS, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) would from 1 February 2007, withdraw the certificate of payment of custom duties as a requirement for vehicle registration.

A press statement signed by Ms. Annie Anipa, Assistant Commissioner of CEPS, states that the Service will henceforth require importers to submit only the Importer's Copy of the CEPS Declaration Form to the Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) for vehicle registration.

The release further stated that, the withdrawal of the Certificate has been necessitated by the fact that declarations made under the GCNET/GCMS completely captures all the essential details of the Certificate thus particulars of vehicles and confirmation of payment of duties and taxes must be accessed directly from GCNET/GCMS.

By the discontinuation of the use of the certificate, management of CEPS hopes the gesture will go a long way to further simplify the clearance and registration of vehicles in the country.
