Personnel of the Police Headquarters have arrested a taxi driver who went into hiding after his failed attempt to abduct a woman on December 19.

The intention of the driver, Yaw Tieku and his two accomplices who are on the run, has not yet been established but people who rescued Madam Hannah Prah, strongly suspect that the three men intended to murder her.

The police mean -while have mounted a search for the arrest of the two men who are on the run.

Narrating how it all happened, Chief Superintendent Kwaku Dzakpata, in charge of CID operations said on December 19, 2000, at about 12 midnight, Madam Prah, a trader at the Kaneshie Market boarded the taxi, a Toyota Corolla with registration number GR 9169 A at the Kaneshie — Takoradi Station, to be taken to her house at Lartebiokorshie in the vicinity of Radio Gold.

Chief Supt. Dzakpata said soon after the taxi had taken off, Madam Prah’s son, asked the driver to drive to the Kaneshie Market Complex area to enable him to buy some food.

He said immediately the boy got down, Tieku sped off.

Fortunately however, the boy had taken down the registration number of the taxi cab.

According to Chief Supt. Dzakpata, Madam Prah shouted at the driver to stop and pick her son but he ignored her and threw something at her face which dazed her and she was unable to shout anymore for help.

Chief Supt. Dzakpata said the driver then took her to a spot near the Nkrumah Flats at Larterbiokorshie where two other men, who were waiting at the place, joined him.

He said the men began to undress her and in the process, she regained consciousness and started struggling with them.

They tore her underwear and leggings and also took her wrist watch and necklace.

Fortunately, a resident saw them struggling with the woman in the dark and started shouting and this attracted other residents to the scene.

The three men, sensing danger, ran into their taxi and sped off, Chief Supt. Dzakpata said.

He said those who went to her aid then clothed the woman who was half- naked and took her to the Mamprobi Police Station and made a report to the police.
